Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?

It seems every time I put on my wipers, they make noise. Even after changing the wiper blades. Is it what I am using to clean my windshield?

When it rains real hard or consistantly I dont get the noise, just when it is drizzling or when I get road wash from other cars, little bits of rain or water.

I've noticed with new cars they never make noise, even when the windshield is completely dry. How do I get that? Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
The noise is caused by the friction of the rubber against the glass, therefore when there is more water for lubrication, there is less friction and therefore less noise.

On the issue of newer cars not making the noise even with little or no water, that has to do with the fact that their windshield glass is new and smooth. With the smooth glass, the small amount of water is spread evenly across the glass, providing even lubrication. With an older windshield, there are scratches and knicks in the glass, giving the water a place to go and therefore not providing as much lubrication. When there is enough water (heavy rain, etc), the lubrication is there, and the noise stops.

The best chance of stopping this is to get a new windshield. However, as that is likely not a viable option, you can try the same method that one would use to remove scratches and smooth out their paint job...polish and wax.

Also, check to make sure that the arms that move your wipers aren't bent in any way, causing them to be misaligned. Good luck. Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
try using your washer, make sure it has water in it :)Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
cause your are using your wipers too much. if its just drizzling then you dont need to turn them on full speed. try rain-x !! best stuff. as long as the car is moving the rain just beads off the windshield. Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
ive have this problem with my bronco, but since i live in the desert it only rains alittle so it always happens, i found out the the springs holding it down are too tight or something and pushing to hard against windsheild, i dont know how to adjust them but when it does rain really hard it dont make the noise before of all the water. Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
Try using some rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and cleaning the wipers with that. Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
Try triple edge wipers. They've never made noise for me or any car I've installed them on. They're a little More expensive than say An-co wipers but they have a lifetime warranty with them as well. They are silicone impregnated and that makes the water run off the windshield like rain X And helps keep them from chatteringWhy do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?

Rear wiper on 1991 Honda Civic DX not working?

I changed the wiper blade on the rear window of my 1991 Honda Civic DX hatchback and now it doesn't work. The front ones work fine. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and repair this would be greatly appreciated!

ThanksRear wiper on 1991 Honda Civic DX not working?
You just changed it? Did it work before changing the blade? If it did make sure the wiper is not binding, turn the wiper on go to the rear of the car and see if it is moving or stuck. If there is no noise or movement you need to check the fuse and make sure it is not blown.

Oldsmobile repair question?

Ok, I own an 85' Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It needs some work. Here is a list of things that it needs:

-Fix a leak in the transmission

-A New muffler and exhaust pipe

-A Tune-up

-An oil change

-Wiper blades

I'm taking it to a mechanic for everything because I don't wanna mess anything else. I need to know how much this is all going to cost before I go so I have the money. Preferably would like an actual mechanic to answer this question but anyone who knows could give me their input too.

I need a really accurate quote or a really accurate ballpark quote, including costs of labor and all that. Thanks!Oldsmobile repair question?
They'll want to do a transmission overhaul....est $250.00 (min.)

New muffler and exhaust....est $175.00 (min.)

Tune up....$150.00

Oil Change....$29.00

Wiper Blades (2)....$6.00/ea.

Total Estimate: $726.00

**Now, we all know what happens when we are at the shop or at home waiting for the call...mechanic comes in (or calls us at home), worried look on his face and exclaims %26quot;Mr. Carowner, got some bad news for ya...while we were in there we found you're gonna need....(whatever)....%26quot;

add $500.00 to original estimate.

I could be way off depending on where you are located and who you take it to so, let's see what others come up with.Oldsmobile repair question?
Prices will vary of course. You are looking at shop labor between $68 and hour and up depending on where you take it. The only repair that might shock you is the transmission leak. You didnt state if it was shifting rough or just possibly a bad gasket. This alone could run several hundred to a couple thousand for a new or rebuilt transmission. Muffler and exhaust about $349 parts an labor, tune up usually starts at $79 and up, oil change is about $19 and up, wiper blades are around $15 and you can put those on yourself to save on a labor charge. Try to get quotes on the phone first or take it in for an estimate before dropping it off to get worked on. Get a ballpark on price or else you could end up with a very large hole in your wallet.Oldsmobile repair question?
Best suggestion, get an estimate before committing. You might also want to have different things worked on at different shops.

The muffler shops might give you a better deal on the exhaust work.

Do the wiper blades yourself (I dont care who you are)...Oldsmobile repair question?
There is NO way to get a %26quot;real accurate quote%26quot; without someone looking at and properly diagnosing the vehicle. Example: you have a transmission fluid leak, Is it coming from the front pump area? In that case the transmission would have to be removed to do the repair. Or is it a transmission output shaft seal that is leaking? A transmission cooler line? Big difference in parts but there is an even greater difference between each job in the labor time each takes. New muffler and exhaust pipe. Muffler and the pipe to the back or from the exhaust manifolds back?

Tune-up: does it need spark plugs only or cap %26amp; wires and spark plugs? There are two many variables!!Oldsmobile repair question?
Can't say about the transmission. the rest aren't too bad.

Wipers 10-15

tune up 100 more or less

oil 15-25

muffler and pipe 200-300Oldsmobile repair question?
if i were you i would call around and get the lowest price.it depends on where the leak is,i mean if its the front seal, then your looking at some bucks.

  • Does my car need new wiper blades?

I've had my car 2 and a half years now and never changed my wiper blades (or really thought about my wipers at all). Recently, I've noticed when I switch my wipers on (usually more noticeable in a light drizzle) that instead of clearing the water off completely like normal, I'm left with smearyness. It's not dirt smears... but more of a watermark... a wet watermark. Sorry, probably not making much sense! But kinda like on a shower door after you've just been in... the way the water sometimes 'puddles' on a vertical surface.

I'm assuming this means I need new wiper blades as I can't think what else it can be. I understand you can buy these from Halfords and are apparently easy to fit (although once saw quite a knowledgeable looking man ask for assistance in halfords to fit his...) - could some one let me know how I'm meant to go about changing them? Or how I can tell if they need changing... or is the fact that they're not actually wiping enough....?!

FYI: it's a citroen c3 and I'm pretty car-dumb...!Does my car need new wiper blades?

it would be a good thing to change them anyway - hubby is an auto tech - says you can also try an alcohol wipe and run it along the blades - this will take off any oily stuff thrown up form the roads. if not better - than buy new ones. if you hae an autozone - they might put them on for you - or stand there and talk you thru it. good luck -Does my car need new wiper blades?
    1) Clean the blades like previous people said.

    2) Clean the windshield, and apply a water repellent treatment to the glass. Best known product is rainx, but there are plenty of products now and they all should generally work well.

    3) Replace the blades if you are still not happy.

I cannot stress how much a water repellent treatment will help your wet driving vision.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Well, that I know of, if your wipers are leaving smears across the windscreen then it seems that you have a build up of gunk on your wipers. Your best bet before buying new wiper blades is to place vinegar on a clean cloth and wipe down the blade, this should do the trick if not then consider buying new blades

Hope this HelpsDoes my car need new wiper blades?
You only need new blades if they are starting to split at the ends. What you describe is grease in the form of traffic film. It is tenacious stuff. You need to go over the windscreen with a very strong solution of washing up liquid. About a 50:50 mix with warm water. Also wipe the blades themselves with the solution. If you do a thorough job the screen should wipe clean with no smearing. Add a good windscreen wash detergent to the washer container to keep it ok.

Incidentally, I had problems with smearing due to a rubbish wash additive. I changed it to Wickes own make and it was fine. Carplan is another good make.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Yes you do... and it's a very common problem. Just ask the person that sells the new wiper blades to help you through your first time, I'm sure they would be glad to help.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Replace your windshield wiper blades. Change them once a year or sooner. Go to AutoZone, Pep Boys, or any other auto mechanics store and buy them for about $5.00 a piece. They are not expensive and they clip in so any person, mechanically inclined or not, can replace them.Does my car need new wiper blades?
Its great that your car went 2 and a half years without changing your wiper blades. It does sound like you need to change them, but only if the water streaks bother you lots. I klnow they would bother me.

Department stores like Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire (and Halford's?) usually have a whole aisle dedicated to wiper blades. There are many makes, models and styles for each car. But don't get discouraged:

For your car there will be about 3 to 5 different blades depending on performance. These blades will also fit other citroen cars.

In the aisle, there's usually a book listing your make and model. If you look up %26quot;Citroen%26quot; then 20XX%26quot; then %26quot;C3%26quot; you will get a listing of those 3 to 5 wiper blades. You'll have to remember the product codes, because that's how they're sorted in the aisle.

If you're confused yet, you can certainly ask a sales associate for assistance.

Make sure both blades are included. Sometimes you'll have to buy the right and left seperately.

You can also buy just the blades or whole wipers. I like buying wipers, they are easier to install.

Check your car's owner's manual. It should have instructions on changing the wiper blades. If not, have at her. The wipers are attached with some sort of metal clip. They are fastened using friction and downward presure on the window.

Bend the wiper blade arm upwards, it should pop up 90 degrees from the window for you to change it. Detach the old one, and attach the new one. Use gloves if your delicate, they sometimes need some elbow grease.

    There you have it!

though, you might just want to avoid this whole ordeal and find some wiper blade silicone. It will be in the wiper aisle, kind of an oil that will make the blades supple again. just apply the oil with a cloth or your fingers to the blade. But for the cost of that stuff, you could get brand spanking new wiper blades.

I don't know how popular Citroen's are in Britain - there's none in Canada. You may need to go to the dealership to get your blades.Does my car need new wiper blades?

How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?

They also gave me a free car wash. Maybe I'm just out of step, but $123 seems kinda high. How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?
well I own 3 pennzoil quick lubes and with exception with the car wash I can tell you exactly what you would have paid. Oil change with any oil except synthetic $30.95. Tire rotation $14.95. Wiper blades (we use Rain-X brand or for more we have Bosch Icons) $19.99 for the pair. $65.89+$3.96tax= $69.85 total. Yes I would say you paid way too much since I know that other than the dealer I am the most expensive quick lube in my town. How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?
Oil change no more than $30 maybe up to $50 if it was synthetic, tire rotation is $20 pretty much anywhere you go, wiper blades no more than $10 each, so ya you might have gotten ripped off a little, nothing to write home about.

Also was it a good car wash with a wax job? if so then thats a fair trade off for me, the auto car wash places around here cost $20 for the full ride. How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?
Even most dealers will charge $20-25 for oil, $10-15 for rotation and $20 for wipers installed. I think the car wash cost you about $60. I'd do more than a little complaining if I were you.

The GM dealer I go to is $20 for oil change %26amp; $10 for rotation.

How to change rear wiper blade on Infiniti fx35?
dealer would be the best bet, i know those little rear wipers on some cars are a pain to try to get off and on. i dont know about infiniti but all you might need is a little wiper insert to get replaced not the whole blade. i say its up to you where you want to get the blade or insert for it but go to the dealer to get it put on, they know what they are doing, most likely they will have a oil changer come out and put it on for you, oil changers do wiper blade/ inserts all the time especially when winter hits.

Uhm Try going to the Dealer Ship and ask them if they can change it for you or if you dont wanna pay the dealer ship then try looking up the size of the wiper in the manual book then try finding the part. If you cant find the part then i advise you to go to the dealer ship.
